There are a number of reasons for concrete to shift and sink becoming uneven. These include erosion from water that creates voids, the natural process of thawing and freezing that occurs over the seasons in Canada and poor compaction that may have occurred of the sub-based when the concrete initially was completed.
Uneven or sunken concrete traditionally has been levelled and lifted through mudjacking techniques. This technique while effective had its weaknesses. For example, mudjacking is done by injecting mud into the cavity and raising the concrete. Over a period of time, the mud, like the dirt that it replaced, would be subject to erosion by water.
Concrete levelling has been done for a number of years primarily using techniques like mudjacking and slab jacking. However, the most effective and new way of lifting and levelling concrete is through polyurethane foam injections. While this is a recently developed solution, it certainly has been proven effective. It has been used throughout North American to lift and level garage floors, basement foundations, sidewalks, pools, patios, driveways, roadways, porches and more.
